Kyle's Birthday Weekend in KC

“Horseback riding.”  This was Kyle’s response when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday.
And when he says anything besides, “I don’t care” or “I don’t know”, I listen.  So I took this idea and ran with it and it turned into a great (but much too short) weekend in Kansas City.

We left Nevada Saturday morning and drove to Saddlecreek Stables by Lee’s Summit  to go horseback riding.   It had been many years since either one of us had ridden a horse and something we have never done together.   It was the perfect day to spend outdoors enjoying the cooler weather.  I rode a beautiful brown horse named Irish and Kyle rode a white with black speckling horse named Gunner.  I would recommend this place to anyone.

After horseback riding, we drove to the Holiday Inn on the Plaza, checked in and sat at the outdoor pool and each drank a Boulevard.

For dinner, we decided to walk to California Pizza Kitchen.  As we stepped outside, we realized it had started to rain.  We could have taken the shuttle but had our hearts set on walking so we grabbed the umbrella (which hasn’t had much use lately) and started toward California Pizza Kitchen.  With the soft rain, there weren’t very many other people along the way.  I must say the pizza was amazing!

After dinner, we walked to Ernie Biggs Piano Bar in the Westport area and enjoyed a night of great music and endless laughter!  We stayed out later than we have in quite awhile.
This guy from the crowd gave some additional entertainment!

Sunday morning we went to the Kansas City Aquarium, Sea Life.  Although I will say it is more oriented towards kids, we had a great time.  I loved the seahorses and sting rays.  These pictures aren't very good, my camera's battery ran out and I had to use my phone camera.

After the Aquarium, we went to watch the Royals beat the White Sox, with a final score of 5-2.  It was picture-perfect weather.

Look at those clouds!

On our way back to Nevada, we stopped at a camera store and finally bought the DSLR camera I've been talking about getting for about 6 months.  It's the Nikon D5100.  So you all can expect better pictures from now on, as long as I can figure out how to use it. =)  We even start a photography class soon...

We had a fantastic weekend in KC and it reminded me that occasionally we need to just get away together and just enjoy each other's company.

First Post!

I created this blog SEVERAL months ago...  probably close to a year, and have yet to post anything.  It seems like it's just one more thing to try and keep updated.

But as the leaves are prematurely turning colors and falling from the trees, I'm turning over a new leaf and will begin to share what is happening in our lives.

My goal is to post something at least monthly, it will probably be a little more at the beginning as I need to share about Kyle's trip to Shanghai (including pictures of course), post some pictures from our Florida vacation with Eric and Annie Daugherty back in April, and of course post way too many pictures of our dogs.

Here it goes!
